A crowd of about 240 people attended the Feb. 9 annual awards banquet of the River Falls Chamber of Commerce and Tourism – an Oscars-award-themed affair named the Choscars – at Kilkarney Hills Golf Course.
Chamber members and supporters gather each year to learn more about their fellow, local businesses; to watch, present or receive several “of-the-year” awards; and to eat, drink, socialize and have fun.
Attendees are encouraged to dress glamorously for the event – even in costume as their favorite movie star or character. The 2012 banquet featured a Marilyn Monroe, characters dressed like those in the movie “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” renaissance-era dresses, golf pros, a Billy Ray Cyrus, Dolly Parton as emcee, and many others.
The Chamber presented a first-ever award for best costume, awarded to Alison and David Page, who dressed convincingly as Antony and Cleopatra.
And the other winners were:
- Citizen: Leah Gavin, owner and operator of Freeman Drug
- Business: West Wind Supper Club
- Small business: Lund’s Hardware
- Non profit: River Falls Community Food Pantry
- Chamber champion: Kris Ainsworth
- Chamber ambassador: Justin Bangston.
