Lowered flag honors fallen soldier

The Wisconsin Department of Military affairs confirms an order issued by Gov. Scott Walker for flags to be lowered to half staff between sunrise and sunset Friday, Jan. 6, to honor U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Joseph J. Altmann, 27, of Marshfield.

The Wisconsin Department of Military affairs confirms an order issued by Gov. Scott Walker for flags to be lowered to half staff between sunrise and sunset Friday, Jan. 6, to honor U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Joseph J. Altmann, 27, of Marshfield. He died Dec. 25, in the Kunar province of Afghanistan, of injuries suffered after insurgents attacked his unit with small-arms fire.

Altmann was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. A memorial service will be held Friday for Altmann.
