Two Pierce County Board members, both from the River Falls area, have filed declarations of non-candidacy, indicating they don’t intend to seek re-election in April, reported County Clerk Jamie Feuerhelm.
The two are Paul Barkla, city of River Falls, the board’s chairman, and Tom Sitz, who represents most of the town of River Falls and part of the town of Martell.
With less than two weeks left before the Jan. 3 filing deadline, seven other incumbents on the 17-member board have declared their candidacy for re-election. Two of those have completed the nomination process, assuring their names will appear on the spring election ballots.
So far no challengers have filed.
These are the board members who’ve declared their candidacy: Rod Rommel, River Falls; Ken Snow, Spring Valley; Greg Place, Ellsworth; Dan Reis, rural Ellsworth; Ron Bartels, Bay City; Jerry Kosin, rural Prescott; and Jeff Holst, Hager City area. Snow and Kosin have completed the nomination process.
The deadline for turning in nomination paper signatures -- at least 20 and no more than 100 -- is 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3. A candidate must collect all 20 signatures from voters in the district in which he is a resident.
Prospective candidates must register their candidacy and return their completed nomination papers to the county clerk. The clerk’s office is in the Courthouse, 414 W. Main St., Ellsworth. The phone number is 715-273-6744.
County board district lines were redrawn after the 2010 census, which means some voters will vote in different districts than they did in the last election.
