Icy patches from overnight freezing rain and sleet appear to have led to a four-vehicle accident on the Hwy. 65 bypass between Golf View Drive and East Division Street just after 7 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.
Only one driver was hurt -- a River Falls High School male student identified as Alexander Call, 17, 425 Hwy. 65 in Roberts.
A patrol officer said Call's injuries were not life threatening. Call was taken by ambulance to River Falls Area Hospital.
According to police, three of the vehicles involved in the crash were southbound. One was heading north.
The first southbound vehicle lost control on the ice, slowed, veered off the road, came back on and was hit from behind.
Immediately after that another southbound and northbound vehicle got snagged in the collision.
Most of the wreckage was outside the two driving lanes so that normal morning rush hour traffic wasn't blocked.
Police report that three of the vehicles were not drivable. They were towed.
Police officers were on the scene for more than an hour.
Soon after the crash, one of the officers reported that a Pierce County Highway Department truck passed by to salt the road.
