Though most locals know the roads within and through town, the signs guide highway travelers to the new, official, state route for Hwys. 35 and 65. Parts of both run through River Falls. The highways previously followed S. Main Street and Cascade Avenue, but those routes changed as plans developed for the major reconstruction of Cascade Avenue, a project slated to start in spring.
The route-switch agreement was approved early in 2011, and the final step to making the change was installing the big highway signs, which City Engineer Reid Wronski said the state DOT required.
