Two Westside Elementary School fifth graders are off to good starts with their Perpetual Motion Gymnastics team in Woodbury, Minn., this season.
Raina Albores helped get the Perpetual Motion Level 6 compulsory season off on the right foot in the first competition of the season earlier this month.
Albores was a top competitor as a Level 5 gymnast last season and trained this year to compete at Level 6. She kicked off her season at the first State Qualifier meet and earned an all-around score of 36.750 while placing first on the vault and balance beam.
Teammate Emilee Evavold is a first year competitor for the Perpetual Motion Level 5 team. She began the season sidelined by injury, but recently had a strong comeback at the second State Qualifier. She scored 8.875 on the beam to earn seventh place.
The USAG compulsory State Meet will be held Dec. 11-12 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
