The River Falls Town Board voted Monday, Oct. 3, to allow yearly all-terrain vehicle use from May 1 to Oct. 31 on 720th Street. Earlier the board had OK'd a six-month trail period for ATV use. Having heard no citizen complaints, the board went ahead and made the usage permanent.
More was to follow.
Pierce County ATV Club representative Larry Johnson asked the Town Board to allow ATV use west of Hwy. 65 on 800th, 921th and 925th streets.
Johnson said that neighbors want to "drive around their neighborhood."
Crossing of Hwy. 65 would not permitted because there is no place to cross and ATVs cannot be driven on state or county roads.
Supervisor Brad Mogen then asked if the town should consider opening up the whole town to ATV use. Supervisor Tom Sitz was vehemently opposed.
The board approved opening up the three extra streets for ATV use as requested by Johnson. Sitz was the only opposing vote.
The board decided for the time being not to open the whole town up to ATV use.
Said Mogen: “This is a good way to phase it in, to see if there are any issues before we ask voters if they want to open the whole town up.”
