Due to the extremely dry weather and high winds being forecasted for the next few days, River Falls Assistant Fire Chief Mike Moody said a burning ban went into effect at noon Thursday, Oct. 6. This affects the River Falls area and beyond. Other area fire departments have issued a similar ban.

The ban covers the River Falls fire district, and extends to the towns of Clifton, Oak Grove, River Falls, Kinnickinnic, Troy, Pleasant Valley, Warren and Hudson.

Moody says the burning ban will continue "until we get enough moisture."

No burning permits will be issued in the affected areas until the ban is lifted.

Moody said that in the rural areas, recreational burning, which does not require a permit, is also banned.

Even with grilling, people are asked to use extreme caution.

Any hot ash or ember that flies into the dry grass with the windy conditions can develop into a serious wildland fire very quickly.
