Wildcat golfers going to state

Halle Hauer earned medalist honors and three Wildcats finished in the top five to lead the River Falls girls’ golf team to a 23-stroke victory at the WIAA Division 1 La Crosse Sectional Wednesday at Forest Hills Golf Course. The sectional title earned the Cats a berth in the WIAA State Tournament for the first time since 2001.

Halle Hauer earned medalist honors and three Wildcats finished in the top five to lead the River Falls girls’ golf team to a 23-stroke victory at the WIAA Division 1 La Crosse Sectional Wednesday at Forest Hills Golf Course.

The sectional title earned the Cats a berth in the WIAA State Tournament for the first time since 2001.

Hauer defeated Grace Onsrud of La Crosse Central/Logan in a one-hole playoff to earn medalist honors. The pair were tied at 82 after 18 holes before Hauer sank a bogey putt on the first playoff hole to earn a five while Onsrud finished with a seven.

Manuela Riascos finished fourth with a score of 84 and Kacey Simone was fifth with 86 while Mari Pechacek added a score of 94 to give the Cats a team total of 346. Tomah was a distant second with 369 to also advance.

Hudson’s Cassie Wurm finished third with an 83 to earn her fourth straight trip to state as an individual qualifier. The Raiders finished fifth overall with a team score of 376.

The WIAA Girls State Golf Tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11, at University Ridge in Madison.
