Wrong way driver undecided: Was it three shots, or four?

A 25-year-old local man was arrested for drunk driving at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, after allegedly making a turn downtown into the wrong lane of traffic and nearly hitting a cop car.

The incident took place at Main and Walnut streets. The River Falls patrol officer quickly pulled the errant driver over.

The man agreed to field sobriety tests but not a preliminary breath test, allegedly saying, “I only had three shots”

Later, after being arrested, searched and led to a squad car, the man allegedly recanted, saying he actually drank four shots.

Because this was the man’s second DWI, his case will be heard next month in Pierce County Circuit Court.

River Falls police also:

--Arrested a 20-year-old local man for disorderly conduct and a probation hold last Thursday afternoon, Feb. 6, at 1204 Bartosh Lane. The alleged victim is his five-month pregnant 17-year-old fiancé.

The two were driving together and apparently fooling around playfully in the car when things got rough.

She claims he pushed her face and broke her sunglasses.

Later at her apartment, the girl also claimed the man slapped her ear and hit her in the nose. She said the slap nearly ripped out her ear piercing.

The girl was finally able to dial 911. The man said the girl clawed him with her nails in the car and later swung a heavy purse at him.

He said he was packing his belongings to leave when she called for help.

Because of the man’s court-ordered probation, he was taken to county jail in Ellsworth.

--Arrested a 20-year-old local woman for domestic disorderly conduct Friday afternoon, Feb. 7, at her apartment address on Nicole Lane.

The woman’s 33-year-old boyfriend called to say the woman had slapped him during an argument after he had asked her to leave. The woman didn’t deny the slapping.

She was taken to county jail in Ellsworth.

--Arrested a 17-year-old girl for disorderly conduct and physical abuse of a child during a disturbance Friday night, Feb. 7, at Positive Alternatives teenage group home, 2860 Williams Ave.

The girl allegedly beat up another 17-year-old girl, who wouldn’t fight back, calling her a snitch. The girl is also accused of attacking other group home staffers as they intervened, including trying to hit a male worker in the groin.

The female victim had swelling by an eye and cheek. The arrestee was taken to county jail in Hudson.
