Winning contestant to be called: Mr. RFHS
Eight River Falls High School boys will strut their stuff soon to compete for the title of “Mr. RFHS.”
On Thursday night, March 27, these students will raise money for charity by participating in the third annual Mr. RFHS pageant.
The pageant is organized by a group of National Honor Society (NHS) students: Maddie Wagner, Miranda McAleavey, Kelli Skogen and Tessa Balsiger.
McAleavey said the event raises money for different charities each year.
“So we’re having fun, but it’s for a good cause,” she said.
This year the pageant will support the River Falls Community Food Pantry and St. Croix Animal Friends (SCAF).
McAleavey said students decided to support the food pantry to raise awareness “for the community to know that it’s not just during holidays when the food pantry needs food.”
When NHS advisor Terri Steinmetz told the students about SCAF, a local group raising money to build a no-kill pet shelter just off of Hwy. 65 near Roberts, the committee decided to split the proceeds between the two organizations.
The committee usually tries to keep each year’s event similar. But McAleavey said the group made a few changes to this year’s event.
For starters, this pageant has a Hollywood theme. The high school auditorium will be decorated as such, and the pageant music will also follow the theme.
“Our opening number starts with “Old Time Rock and Roll” from (the movie) ‘Risky Business,’” McAleavey said.
The pageant will also include swimwear, formal wear, a question-and- answer session, and an alumni dance.
Mr. RFHS competitors are: Seniors Ace Sauerwein and Dave Black; juniors Hunter Dolan and Tim Ballard; sophomores Nathan Czech and Riley Tschumper; and freshmen Jesse Halling and Bailey Ronnestrand.
