Willa J. Anderson, 85

Willa J. Anderson, age 85, of Stockholm, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2010, after a short struggle with cancer at the Pepin Manor, where she had been a resident for a few weeks.

She was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Rock Elm, Wis., the daughter of Claude and Ina Lou (Betterly) Burgess. Willa graduated from Ellsworth High School and worked at the St. Paul Hotel, Montgomery Wards, and Northwest Airlines as a grease monkey, parts runner and riveter. She married Glen Anderson on May 25, 1946, at Ono Methodist Church, Grange Hall, and they farmed in the Stockholm area for 50 years.

Willa was a member of Sabylund Lutheran Church, active in Sabylund Women working at many auctions and helping distribute the church newsletter. She was a leader for the Lakeview 4-H Club and attended many 4-H activities and fairs as her daughters and later all grandchildren were 4-H members. Willa enjoyed cooking, gardening, growing and sharing raspberries, birds, writing letters and sending cards, growing flowers (especially glads), maintaining a bluebird trail, dancing, playing 500 and fishing. In later years, she enjoyed her cats. Willa and Glen traveled to Sweden, Florida, Arizona and Alaska. Glen died in October 2005.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie (Charles) Anderson, Stockholm, Joanne Daleiden, Hager City, Fay (Blaine) Westberg, River Falls; grandchildren, Casey (Angie) Anderson, Carley (Rubin) Seifert, Janaye (Jeremy) Gunderson, Brent Daleiden, Lance and Heath Westberg; great-grandson, Anders Seifert; brother, LeRoy (Audrey) Burgess; brother-in-law, Earl (La Vey) Anderson; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Willa was preceded in death by an infant brother; parents, Claude and Ina Lou Burgess; husband, Glen Anderson; and son-in-law, Steve Tolvay.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, at Sabylund Lutheran Church in Lund. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Maiden Rock and Friday from 10-11 a.m. before the service at church. Interment will be in Old Sabylund Cemetery.
