Wildcats win thriller
The River Falls High School football team rallied from a 21-0 deficit to spoil Hudson's Homecoming with a 22-21 victory in Hudson Friday night.
Ben Wunrow scored all three touchdowns for the Wildcats, who improved to 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the Big Rivers Conference. Hudson slipped to 3-2 overall, 1-2 in the BRC.
Wunrow's first touchdown came on a 1-yard run on the final play of the first half. The score was set up when Tyler Hunter took a pitch from Sean Gilbert on a hook-and-lateral from midfield and took it down to the two yard-line with 5.6 seconds remaining. A pass interference penalty against the Raiders moved the ball to the one where Wunrow took it over as time expired.
Wunrow's second TD came on another short run after a Lance Westberg interception. Quarterback Marty Herum hit Eric Gilbertson for the two-point conversion to cut the Raider lead to 21-15 with 10:09 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Wunrow tied the score with another 1-yard plunge with 2:38 remaining and Herum kicked the extra point to put the Wildcats ahead 22-21.
Hudson had one last chance but Sean Gilbert came up with a big interception at the Wildcat 30 with 39 seconds remaining to seal the win.
