There is a box of 1960s shoes, flats, heels and boots in the public library’s lower level. That footgear was made for walking, and that’s just what it will do Sunday afternoon on the feet of volunteer models in the library’s 1960s fashion show.

Last Friday, Feb. 7, Robin Murray, UW-River Falls theater department chair, retired UWRF English professor Ruth Wood and library gallery/event coordinator Katie Chaffee gathered to start sorting through the clothes, putting  together outfits, and planning the show.

Murray will speak at the fashion show, giving the audience an overview of 1960s fashion history. She said the waistline was one of the big changes from the 1950s to the 1960s.

“Either it disappears completely and is a shift, or it is empire,” Murray said. She said the silhouette change and the new fabrics changed the face of fashion in the 1960s.

Other popular 1960s fashions included tube tops, pleated skirts and miniskirts.

The fashion show is 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, in the library’s lower level. People who attend the event are invited to bring or wear a 1960s outfit or artifact, or a photo of a 1960s outfit or artifact, and share a story about one of their artifacts. For more information, call Chaffee at 715-426-3496.
