Friday:

  • Mid-Winter Dance: At 7 p.m. in the River Falls Public Library lower level. From 7-7:45 p.m. free basic lessons with dance instructor Jeff Sommerfeld and Bad Habits Brass Big Band Dance Music starting at 8 p.m. Be it a “Second Chance," a “Do-over Prom” or just prom practice, bring your sweetie and dance the night away! Free admission and refreshments. Attire casual to formal. For ages 16 and up.
  • Barn dance: The Twin Cities acoustic string band, Gritpickers, will play in River Falls Saturday, Jan.18 for the Saturday Night Barn Dance series, held from 7-10 p.m. in the gym of the River Falls Academy. No experience is needed to participate. An experienced caller will teach steps to new and more seasoned dancers. All ages are welcome, singles, couples, and groups. The first half of the evening features family dances suitable for including children, with more advanced dances in the second half. Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for 12 and under. Inexpensive refreshments are available.

  • Free fishing weekend: Fish anywhere in Wisconsin without a license or trout stamp on Free Fishing Weekend. This includes all inland waters and Wisconsin's side of the Great Lakes and Mississippi River. Other fishing rules apply, such as limits on the number and size of fish you can keep and any seasons when you must release certain fish species.

Sunday:

  • Lions club breakfast buffet: From 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at the River Falls Moose Lodge, 620 Clark St. There will be bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes (gluten free pancakes available), French toast, hash browns, fruit, orange juice, and milk. The cost is $8 for adults, $7 for children 12 and under and free for those under five. Tickets available from any Lions Club member or at the Moose Lodge day of event. All proceeds go toward Camp Needlepoint for diabetic children.
  • Open Skate: From 1-2:30 p.m. at W.H. Hunt Arena on the UWRF campus.

  • Pancake Breakfast: Hancock Lodge will host a pancake breakfast, at the Ellsworth Masonic Center, 400 High Point Dr. Serving time is 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs with ham, pork sausage links and beverages. There will be a free will offering with proceeds going to the Lodge scholarship program and other Masonic charities.
