  • Coffee concert series: The UW-River Falls Coffee Concert Series presents Layton “Skip” James, former member of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra with a program about Bach. Join James in a discussion/performance about the musician, Johan Sebastian Bach at noon, for a 1 hour concert with a reception following.   • Gallery opening: “The Sights and Sounds of Spring” show April opening from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Gallery 120. Featuring Natasha Reese-Mraz, needle felted pieces; John Koch, woodcuts; Greta Hammalman, found objects and collages; Deb Kochm woodcuts; Naomi Brandt, water colors; and Pauly Cudd, glass.
  • Wildcat Girls softball: At 4:30 p.m. versus New Richmond at the River Falls High School.
  • Justice Water fish fry: A fish fry fundraiser for Lindsey Wells’ Justice Water mission trip will be held from 5-9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the American Legion, 701 N Main. St. The all you can eat event will feature live music and a silent auction. Tickets are $10 for adults and 6 for children. For more information about Justice Water visit www.justicewater.net.
  • UW-River Falls BFA exhibits: UW-River Falls seniors Peter Smith, Rome Gonstead, Ariel Krupke and Philip Reed will present their BFA degree exhibitions in Gallery 101 in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building at UW-River Falls through April 13. On display will be ceramics, mixed media paintings, printmaking and glass sculptural work. An exhibition reception is from 5-9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sundays from 2-4 p.m. For more information, contact the UWRF Art Department at 715-425-3266.

  • Library lower level exhibit: Quilts from traditional to trendy. No longer just for the bed, the annual quilt exhibit showcases careful stitchery, amazing designs, and vibrant colors through April 20.
  • Saturday:

    • Spring Clean Sweep & Pharmaceutical Event: 8 a.m.-noon at Pierce County Recycling Center. Call 273-03092 for more information.
    • Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt & Carnival: At River Falls High School, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Easter Bunny will be available for photos, all activities are free. Freewill donation to River Falls Food Shelf. Eyeglass and cell phone donations accepted, concessions available.
    • UW-River Falls track and field: Falcon Invite at 11 a.m. at Ramer Field on the UWRF campus.
    • UW-River Falls women’s Softball: At 2 p.m. versus Superior at Ramer Field on the UWRF campus.
    • Falls Theatre: Captain America 2 at 2, 7 and 9 p.m. See a preview at www.fallstheatre.com.
    • UWRF band concert: The 451st Army Band will be in concert at 3p.m. in William Abbott Concert Hall, Kleinpell Fine Arts Building, on the UWRF Campus. The free concert features music of Americana with music for people of all ages.     • Knights of Columbus Fish Fry: At the New Richmond Knights of Columbus Hall.     • Fifth annual Get Movin' 5K Road Race: Formerly the Turkey Trot, at Pheasant Hills Golf Course, 1025 170th St. Hammond. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., race starts at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds go to the St. Croix Central High School senior all-night party.     • Spring Fever Expo: The Spring Fever Expo, organized by the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellsworth High School gym. Features will include: a driving simulator, sign-up for t-ball, kids’ activities such as game, cookie decorating, face painting, coloring contest and bounce house, plus photos with the Easter Bunny, along with prize drawings and concessions.
