Video: Paws to Read
Nearly nine year old Megan Edwards spent a Wednesday afternoon reading at the River Falls Library - with a dog.
Paws to Read is a reading program that the library started in January when dog trainer Rachel Rhyner asked Monica LaVold, River Fall's Public Library youth services librarian, if she would be intereted in starting up a program. LaVold, familiar with the benefits of programs like this, was eager.
Since then, Paws to Read programs have been hosted by the library for children to read to soon-to-be-certified therapy dog Zorro and his brother Tornado.
“Especially knowing how much research his behind it,” La Vold said, “it’s incredible what you can gain with time spent with animals.”
