World War II veteran Arnie Roen remembers well the day he left for war. He is one of several presenters who will talk at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the lower level of the River Falls Public Library. The public is invited.

Roen is pictured at his home in rural River Falls at the same farmstead where he was born and raised. He recalls the sad day when he had to leave everything behind that was important to him -- particularly his beloved family and the farm of which he was so proud.

The war hero, who fought in 24 invasions, will be a featured member of a panel presenting many dimensions of the war and the home front. Other presenters include Arnie's wife, Evie; Roman Falteisek, another WWII veteran; and Bernie Abrahamson, author of the book, "The Other American Heroes of WWII."
