UPDATE: Two hospitalized after Sunday morning incident

Two elderly passengers were injured Sunday morning when a woman lost control of the car she was driving and struck several mailboxes and a tree in Pierce County.

Due to a medical condition, Janet K. Wuorenma, 55, Prescott, lost control of her vehicle, injuring a female passenger and a male passenger, according to Pierce County Deputy Andrew Thoms.

The accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Hwy. 10 near County Road QQ in the town of Oak Grove.

According to Thoms, investigation showed that the 1999 Cadillac DeVille was traveling east on Hwy. 10 when the accident occurred.

Ruth M. Karl, 85, Prescott, was taken by the Prescott Ambulance Service to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. A Regions spokesperson said Monday she was in critical condition. 

Eugene B. Ruhr, 86, Prescott, was taken by the River Falls Ambulance Service to Regina Hospital in Hastings, Minn.

A third passenger – Lois J. Ruhr, 86, Prescott – was not transported.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Prescott Ambulance Service, the Prescott Fire Department and the River Falls Ambulance Service.
