UPDATE: Memorial gathering planned for victim in car- semi crash; female passenger still 'critical'
A memorial service is planned for Thursday evening in Cottage Grove, Minn., for the man killed in a car- versus semi-truck accident that happened Saturday evening near Prescott
Matthew D. Amos, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Amos' car remained in critical condition Tuesday morning at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Nancy Valois Graves, 22, of St. Paul, was airlifted from the scene to Regions. Her condition was still listed as critical at 9:40 a.m., Tuesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
A press release issued by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department stated Amos was northbound on County Road E at about 6:20 p.m. when he failed to stop at the intersection of Hwy. 10. His 1999 Oldsmobile sedan struck the back axle of an eastbound semi-truck trailer.
The car came to rest in the northeast ditch, about 100 yards east of County Road E.
Authorities said the semi was operated by James M. Morgans, 41, of Tomah. He was uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation.
Amos, a native of Wyoming, moved to Minnesota with his father and brother at age 10, according to a published obituary. He played football at Park High School in Cottage Grove and attended UW-River Falls for a time.
A memorial gathering is planned for 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6 at KOK Funeral Home in Cottage Grove, Minn.
