UPDATE: Designer’s closing short lived

Designer Doors, the River Falls manufacturer that closed abruptly last week and seemed headed for liquidation, reopened for business Friday, April 25.

In a surprise twist, the founder and former owner of Designer Doors, Kent Forsland, has bought back his old company.

Vendors received word of the company's sale in an email message Friday from Steve Williams, the man who bought the firm just over three years ago.

Late Monday morning, Forsland was busy at Designer Doors, presiding over meetings and getting reacquainting with all the processes. In the shop area workers had resumed building doors, he said.

Designer, located in the River Falls Industrial Park, builds handcrafted carriage-style wood doors for houses and businesses, along with entry doors, shutters and gates.

Employees from Cabrio Structures -- Forsland's other firm that fabricates patio enclosures using patented retractable roof and opening wall systems -- will soon relocate from 127 N. Main Street to the Designer Doors location, 702 Troy Street.

While shop space will be tight, Forsland said the two firms have synergy in areas of marketing, engineering and assembly.
