A 20-year-old local man was pinched twice for underage drinking. The second time was when officers spotted screen windows on South Main Street dropping from a third-story apartment.

River Falls police also heard yelling from that apartment late Sunday night, Sept. 29, and quickly went up to check on things.

Inside, the male suspect, described as very drunk, denied taking out and tossing screen windows onto the street below. A woman who was with him pretended to sleep in the living room.

The man said they were going to bed now and would cause no more trouble. Both were tested for alcohol use and given drinking citations.

Their landlord said she would take money from their security deposit to cover the broken screens. A third window in the apartment also appeared damaged.

A few nights earlier the same man was cited for underage drinking in the parking lot of the 100 block of East Maple Street. He was hanging out with a 23-year-old man.

Officers heard breaking glass and responded. When questioned, the man denied drinking and claimed he’d only tossed and broken a bottle of root beer.

That turned out to be a fib. The broken bottle was found. Police say it held White Zinfandel wine. The suspect was tested for alcohol use.

Two young men then showed up. They declared they were the accused man’s “legal counsel.”

They asked questions of the officer who was writing tickets to the 20-year-old for the underage drinking and littering.

And that was that. The two citations were issued.

The 20-year-old said sorry, he lied because of some past drinking citations. He was trying to avoid getting another.

Police also cited three young people for underage drinking after 1 a.m. last week Tuesday, Sept. 24, by the apartments at 1143 S. State St.

An 18-year-old local woman found there said she’d been arguing with her boyfriend about cheating on him. The boyfriend had gone.

Two male companions who were with the woman were also cited. They were from Prescott.

One, age 17, said because of this incident, he had to contact his probation agent. Recently he’d been suspended from high school for tackling the school’s mascot.
