Track teams shine at All-American Invitational
Senior Colin Rogers won the boys' 1600 meter run and junior Kali Kramolis placed second in the girls' 55 meter hurdles final to lead their Wildcat track and field teams at the prestigious All-American Invite Saturday at UW-River Falls' Knowles Center.
The Wildcat boys finished 11th out of 16 teams while the girls placed 12th out of 17.
Rogers turned in the Cats' only first place finish of the day by winning the 1600 meter run in 4 minutes, 41.63 seconds.
Senior Sean Gilbert placed in three different events for the boys. He posted a fifth place time of 8.41 seconds in the 55 meter hurdle finals, a fifth place time of 24.12 in the 200 meter dash finals, and a sixth place distance of 41-feet, 8.5 inches in the triple jump.
Junior David Ritter boosted the Cats' team score by finishing seventh in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:03.51.
Anoka, Minn., won the boys' competition with 90.5 points while Lakeville North (Minn.) was second with 81 and La Crosse Logan third with 53.5. The Wildcats were 11th with 23.
On the girls' side, Lakeville North took first with 92.33 followed by Anoka with 76, Onalaska with 52 and Hudson with 49. River Falls was 12th with 23.
Kramolis turned in the Wildcat girls' highest finish of the day by taking second in the 55 meter hurdle finals in 9.22 seconds. Sophomore Lucy Ramquist placed fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:28.68 while senior Yanique Black finished seventh in the 55 meter dash finals in 7.85 seconds and senior Aubri Squire was seventh in the long jump with a distance of 14-8.
Earlier in the week, the Cats competed against Tartan (Minn.) and Hudson in a triangular meet at Knowles Center. No team scores were kept but both the Wildcat girls and boys turned in a number of first place performances.
Gilbert won the boys' 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.62 seconds and the triple jump with a distance of 42-4.25 while placing second in the 200 meter dash in 24.33. Grant Lillvis finished second in the shot put with a throw of 40-9 while Eddie Gallenberg placed third in the 55 meter dash in 7.04 seconds.
On the girls' side, Kramolis posted a time of 9.24 seconds to win the 55 meter hurdles and teamed up with Abbey Berg, Tessa Coggio and Maddy Durhman to win the 4 x 200 meter relay with a combined time of 1:54.02.
Squire took second in both the triple jump (31-7.75) and long jump (14-4.5) while Ramquist was second in the 400 meter dash (1:06.8).
Monica Morgan, Ramquist, Maren Johnson and Laura Anderson combined for a second place time of 4:33.17 in the 4 x 400 meter relay while Black finished third in the 200 meter dash in 29.2 seconds.
Both teams will compete in the Osceola Invitational at UW-RF on Tuesday, April 7, beginning at 4:15 p.m.
