Thursday, Sept. 5 roundup: Golfers first at Rice Lake

Halle Hauer paced River Falls with a 9-hole score of 39 and three Wildcats finished in the top five to lead the Cats to a first place finish at a 6-team Big Rivers Conference girls’ golf match at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake Thursday, Sept. 5.

Hauer finished one stroke behind medalist Kaitlyn Alvarez of Eau Claire North while Rachael Meyer and Sydney Brunholzl tied for fourth place with scores of 42 each.

The Cats finished with a team total of 166 while Eau Claire North was second with 172.

In girls’ tennis action, Ayana Nguyen won her match at No. 1 singles in a super-tiebreaker and the No. 3 doubles team of Leah Scott and Lexi Ronnestrand picked up a 7-5, 6-3, victory but the Wildcats lost a 5-2 decision in Chippewa Falls.

In the Dewey Minnaert Cross Country Invitational at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park in Hastings Thursday, River Falls’ Trent Powell took first in the boys’ race and the Wildcat boys’ finished fifth out of 12 teams.
