Thunderstorm claims life of Stillwater 14-year-old girl
Severe thunderstorms hit parts of northwest Wisconsin Tuesday and a 14-year-old girl was killed just across the border in Stillwater, Minn.
Authorities said Taylor Zimmerman was struck by lightning when she was playing in the rain outside her home, and ran under a tree.
Emergency workers restored her pulse. But Zimmerman died later at a local hospital.
The Twin Cities area was the hardest hit, but northwest Wisconsin got the tail end of those storms.
Hail fell in the Hudson, Grantsburg and Chippewa Falls areas.
Southwest Wisconsin had heavy rains in the late morning and afternoon. The National Weather Service says various upper-level disturbances will bring more thunderstorms to the state today and tonight.
Clearing skies are expected in parts of the state this afternoon. But temperatures will remain below normal, with highs in the 70s.
