Third child in Oak Grove Township accident dies

ST. PAUL - A third child who was injured in an accident which took place Thursday in Oak Grove Township died Saturday.

Five-year old Laynie Jo Amos of Amery died of brain trauma at Regions Hospital Saturday in St. Paul. She had been airlifted to Regions from the accident scene.

Also killed in the crash were 11-year old Lydia Milberg, the driver's daughter, of Centuria and five-year old Clara Pavek of Prescott.

Clara is the daughter of Kati Milberg Pavek and Michael Pavek of Prescott.

All three were in vehicle driven by Milberg's mother Kari which was heading south on Hwy, 35 about six miles south of Prescott when it reportedly spun out of control into the northbound lane and was struck in the rear by with an on-coming single-axle straight truck driven by Jose Mendoza of Rockford, Ill.

The crash occurred near the intersection of 468th Ave. Pavek and Amos were her nieces and they were heading to Pavek's home when the accident took place late in the afternoon.

Mendoza and the two passengers were not hurt in the accident. Kari Milberg is reported still in critical condition at Regions while her three-year old son Easton is has been reported to have suffered only minor injuries and is recovering at Gillette Children's Hospital.

The Star-Tribune reported Sunday that Kari Milberg is employed as a night-shift nurse at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, Minn.

The newspaper quoted Unity School District superintendent Brandon Robinson as saying middle schooler's in the Unity School District where Lydia was a sixth-grader, will be offered counseling and support on Monday.

The accident is still under investigation by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
