Thinking about your garden? Garden U can help March 16
The St Croix Valley Master Gardeners are hosting Garden U on Saturday, March 16, at Ready Randy's Conference Center in New Richmond. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the $30 fee includes lunch and speaker handouts. Pre-registration can be done by mailing a check payable to SCVMGA to Barrette-SCVMGA at 1358 County V, Houlton, WI, 54082. Questions can be directed to (715) 549-6438 or GardenU.
In the morning, Joel Karsten will present "Breaking New Ground: Straw Bale Gardening" which allows you to grow a garden without weeding, without the heavy lifting and without getting down on your knees. Learn to grow a bountiful garden without using herbicides, insecticides, or fungicides. Learn to plant a wide variety of vegetables, root crops, vine crops, fruit crops, and even beautiful flowers, directly into your "conditioned" straw bales. Any backyard, concrete patio, rooftop or driveway, can become a productive garden space.
Pauline Goerdt and Diana Alfuth will present the second session of the morning, "Things We Know That We Forgot". Some of the topics discussed will include best pruning practices and plant selection at the garden center.
"What to do with Garden Art" is the afternoon session presented by Carol Cox. We've all been there; we love to add a little whimsy, statuary, and unique pieces to our gardens for interest and surprise.
Ready Randy's is located at 1490 131st St., New Richmond, on Hwy. 65, between Roberts and New Richmond (exit 10 off I94), and County G.
