These upcoming local concerts create holly, jolly offerings

The holiday season is usually heralded in by the sounds of music, from catchy tunes on the radio to carolers.

This year the St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra and UW-River Falls will put on several holiday-themed musical events.

They include:

Holiday Extravaganza II

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m.

UWRF/William Abbott Concert Hall.

The St. Croix Valley Symphony Orchestra will perform with acclaimed actor/singer Jen Burleigh-Bentz, River Falls Brass, and narrator Michael Norman in a Holiday Concert.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 seniors, $2 for students. Food shelf donations are requested for the St. Croix Valley region with Student Chapter United Way.

Holiday band concert

Thursday, Dec. 12, 7:30 p.m. UWRF William Abbott Concert Hall.

UW-River Falls will present its holiday band concert Thursday, Dec. 12. This concert will offer a variety of instrumental music, and musicians from the greater St. Croix Valley collaboratively presenting a variety of holiday selections.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and$2 for students. Food shelf donations for the St. Croix Valley region with Student Chapter United Way are requested.

Chamber Concert

Friday, December 13, a new lunchtime series begins with a Chamber Concert.

Fans of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and “An American in Paris” can join pianists Ivan Konev and Denis Evstuhin in a special concert at William Abbott Concert Hall, Kleinpell Fine Arts Building, on the UWRF campus. Other selections include “Scaramouche” by Darius Milhaud, and Rachmaninoff’s “Russian Rhapsody.”

There is no charge for this concert but a food shelf donation is requested.

Piano concert

Tony Capparelli will be the guest soloist at a special concert on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. at William Abbott Concert Hall, Kleinpell Fine Arts Center, on the UWRF Campus. Capparelli will perform works of Schumann’s Kreislerian A, Op. 16 and the Piano Sonata in E flat, Opus 7 by Ludwig van Beethoven. This concert is free and open to the public.
