Testing, testing: Election preparations carried out in River Falls

Duane Pederson, volunteer poll worker and former River Falls mayor, came to City Hall Monday morning, Oct, 29, to test the accuracy of the city's optic scanners and electronic touch-screen voting machines.

Pederson was one of a handful of poll workers who assisted City Clerk LuAnn Hecht and Deputy Clerk Bridget Hieb with the "public test" of the voting equipment.

The test was conducted by feeding pre-marked voter ballots into the machines and then counting them later with edit sheets.

The presidential election is Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Turnout in River Falls could be 70% or higher, meaning a busy day of vote tabulating for poll workers.

Already almost 1,000 people have voted early, but absentee voting at the city clerk's office in River Falls closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.
