Swimmers beat CF, fall to Hudson
The Wildcat swimming and diving team dropped a heartbreaking 93-5 to 92-5 Big Rivers Conference decision to Hudson Thursday at the high school pool.
Despite the loss, head coach Lynn Huiskamp said she was pleased to see the Cats take first and third place in two of the three relay events.
"I told the girls, many of the first places might go Hudson's way, but if we filled in the second to fourth places, we would finish well," she said.
Tessa Coggio, Grace Goblirsch, Tara Sarno and Marlayna Probst teamed up for a first place time of 2 minutes, 1.61 seconds, in the opening event of the night -- the 200 yard medley relay.
The Cats also took first in the 200 freestyle relay with Chelsey Morrow, Sofia Carlson, Sarno and Coggio winning in 1:48.23.
The Wildcats' only other first place finishes came from Goblirsch in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.81 and Carly Jerry in diving with a score of 184.85.
Sarno posted a personal best time of 1:05.94 to take second place in the 100 butterfly while Probst swam a personal best of 58.99 seconds to finish second in the 100 freestyle.
A week earlier, the Wildcats took first in nine of the evening's 11 events on their way to a 102-66 victory over Chippewa Falls in a BRC dual meet in Chippewa Falls.
Two days later, the Cats returned to Chippewa Falls and took third place at the eight-team Chippewa Falls Invitational.
In the dual at Chippewa Falls, Sarno and Coggio each won two individual events and played a role on two winning relay teams.
Sarno won the 200 yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 31.34 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 1:11.73, while Coggio took first in the 50 freestyle in 26.43 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.61.
The pair also teamed up with Goblirsch and Probst for a first place time of 2:02.96 in the 200 medley relay, and combined with Morrow and Carlson for a first place time of 1:51.16 in the 200 freestyle relay.

At the Chippewa Falls Invite, the Wildcats finished third with 219 points. St. Michael/Albertville took first with 282 and Onalaska/Holmen/Aquinas was second with 219.
Coggio topped 21 other swimmers to take home the 100 yard butterfly title with a time of 1:03.33 and took third in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.1. Sarno was second in the 50 freestyle in 27.18 seconds while Probst was fourth in 27.39.
