A small group of special-needs students and teachers gathered recently to help clean up the town of River Falls' South Valley Park.

Teacher CeCe Gillis says the group is always looking for community-based projects it can do. The service projects not only teach students a sense of community but also show them that many kinds of work can benefit others and isn't always done for pay.

Gillis said for example, the students helped with the Lions Club-sponsored Easter egg hunt, town hall cleaning and parks projects; the group usually gets requests for such assignments by word of mouth.
