A Spring Valley man made a court appearance Monday on two counts of incest.
A cash bond was set at $25,000 for John A. Landgraf, 63, N6955 County Road BB. Landgraf's next court appearance is a preliminary hearing set for 8:45 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31.
The criminal complaint alleges Landgraf came to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department Thursday and revealed to investigators he had "improper relations" with a family member, now a teenager, for the last eight years. He said he decided to confess after family members confronted him with a recording made by the victim during one of their conversations.
Landgraf said there was no intercourse and she was the only victim. He said he has a drinking problem but didn't blame the incidents on alcohol use. He estimated there had been about a dozen incidents over the eight-year period.
Following the interview, Landgraf was arrested and booked into jail.
Investigators later interviewed the victim, who corroborated Landgraf's stories. She told others about the alleged assaults a year ago but they didn't believe her so she made the recording to provide evidence.
The criminal charges are the first against Landgraf. If convicted of the Class C felonies, he could face of 40 years prison and fines of up to $100,000.
