Snow storm closes schools, government offices
Superintendent of the River Falls School District Tom Westerhaus sent an alert early on Wednesday, Dec. 9, announcing that all schools and school-related activities were canceled for the day.
UW-River Falls Chancellor Dean Van Galen sent an e-mail message around 8:15 a.m. that the college would be closing for the day. He said the UW system president notified its universities that Governor Jim Doyle had issued an order closing all state agencies for the day, including universities. The order directed all employees to stay unless their jobs are related to public safety, emergency response or public health.
The governor's order may be viewed at the state emergency management web site: http://emergencymanagement.wi.gov/.
The National Weather Service issued a statewide blizzard warning through midnight, with more falling, blowing and drifting snow expected. Travelers can find updated road-condition information on the Wisconsin DOT's web site: http://www.dot.state.wi.us/travel/gis/rwis.htm.
