Snow days have morphed into too cold days
This winter school has been canceled five times in River Falls because of bitterly cold, blowing weather. The school district’s calendar is designed for two such cancellations.
What that means is that three days for this school year must be made up – and winter is only halfway done and there still haven’t been cancellations from heavy snowfall.
Superintendent Jamie Benson says the school year calendar also has two possible makeup days that will now be used: Feb. 17, previously set as a parent/teacher conference day; and June 6, previously set as a teacher work/in-service day.
That still leaves one more day to make up. The school board will take up this issue at its Feb. 17 regular meeting.
Makeup day options include: Cutting into Spring Break; having school on Good Friday; or extending the school year into the second week of June.
The last day of the 2013-14 school year was supposed to be Thursday, June 5.
