Small-business summit targets growth potential, entrepreneurs

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch will speak to small business owners at the second annual Governor's Small Business Summit happening 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 8, at the La Crosse Center, 300 Harborview Plaza in La Crosse.

The registration deadline is Nov. 1, and the fee is $50.

The summit is advertised as an opportunity to meet Wisconsin's leadership team and get involved in job creation.

According to information provided on the website and in announcements about the event, the summit provides Wisconsin small-business owners an opportunity to network, learn about resources available and share ideas for growing jobs and the economy.

The event brings state agencies and cabinet members together with small-business owners and entrepreneurs.

The summit agenda includes Wisconsin Department of Revenue Secretary Rick Chandler presenting an informational session entitled Small Business Taxes and Tax Reform.

It gives attendees a chance to learn about Wisconsin's existing tax incentives for businesses and provide input on recommended changes to the tax code.

The day's agenda includes a talk by Kleefisch named Wisconsin is Open for Business - "Let's Get This Done Together" and an address from Dept. of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch entitled "Running State Government Like a Small Business."

Attendees can participate in various roundtable discussions with officials from other departments including financial institutions, revenue, transportation, housing and economic and workforce development, natural resources, trade and consumer protection, safety, tourism and veterans affairs.

The event is presented by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA).
