Sheriff investigates Somerset stabbing
The St. Croix County Sheriff's department was continuing the investigation of a stabbing incident in rural Somerset Sunday night.
Sheriff John Shilts said Monday morning deputies were called to 1952 County Rd. I at 10:20 p.m. where Timothy P. Burdick, 41, had suffered multiple stab wounds to his legs and stomach. Burdick was evacuated to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
George Willie Elmore, 51, was arrested and taken to jail in the incident. Elmore was booked on attempted first degree homicide, aggravated battery, reckless injury, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges.
Burdick told deputies that upon arriving home with his girlfriend, he was approached in his driveway by Elmore who was angry. The sheriff's report said Elmore felt Burdick had "disrespected" him and then produced a knife and allegedly threatened to kill Burdick. A struggle ensued and Burdick was stabbed a number of times.
Elmore was expected to appear in court Monday afternoon on formal charges.
"I want to assure everyone that this appears to be a targeted attack and with the suspect in custody, there is no further danger to the public," Shilts said.
