Sharing Families underway and needing help
Thirty-two families are still waiting to be “adopted” as the River Falls Sharing Families Project gets underway.
Family profiles started coming in late last week. By Wednesday work groups and families had stepped up to sponsor 18 recipient families. That means 34 more families are awaiting sponsors.
The goal is to have sponsors for all 50 families by the end of the month.
The families received this year range in size from two to six members. Family members already on our lists include infants, toddlers, elementary-age kids, teens, parents and grandparents. Some have special needs or are dealing with chronic illnesses.
Sharing Families will again provide $125 grocery packages to each family plus extra $25 grocery gift certificates to families with five or more people.
Persons willing to help may:
--Sponsor a family or child by buying the items they have requested. Employee groups, students and service groups often “adopt” families, buying gifts and clothing for each family member. Those who decide to do that are asked to call the Journal’s main desk at 715-425-1561 or Judy Wiff at 715-426-1049.
--Add a child to their shopping list and buy a new toy or game for that child.
--Make a donation of money to buy food, toys and clothing. (No cash will be given to families.)
Donations may be mailed to Sharing Families, P.O. Box 701, River Falls, WI 54022; brought to the Journal office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays; or dropped off at a participating bank. Those include WESTconsin Credit Union, First National Bank of River Falls, River Falls State Bank, Royal Credit Union and Security Financial Bank.
