A woman from New Richmond was killed and two men -- one from River Falls and one from Prescott -- were injured in an accident that occurred in the Bass Lake area south of Somerset Tuesday morning.

Dawn Anderson, 37, New Richmond, was pronounced dead at the scene by a St. Croix County medical examiner.

Thomas E. Geistfeld, 64, Prescott, was transported to Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, Minn., with unknown injuries and later transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. His passenger, Cole J. Borowicz, 21, River Falls, was taken to Regions Hospital with unknown injuries.

The two-vehicle accident occurred at 7:59 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, on County Road I north of Valley View Road in the town of St. Joseph, according to St. Croix Chief Deputy Scott Knudson.

According to the Sheriff's Department, Geistfeld was driving a 2006 Chevy K3500 truck north on County I while the 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by Anderson was headed south on the same road.

According to witnesses, Geistfeld was passing another vehicle when he lost control of his truck, which fishtailed and went sideways, striking the Anderson car. Both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch with the truck landing upside down on the car.

Anderson was wearing her seatbelt. Borowicz was not wearing a seatbelt, and it's not known if Geistfeld was wearing a seatbelt.

This is St. Croix County's seventh highway fatality this year, compared with six all of 2010. The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department.

Somerset Fire and Rescue and the St. Joseph's Fire Department also responded.
