The Roustabouts kick off 2013-14 barn dances in River Falls
The Twin Cities string band The Roustabouts kick off the 2013-14 River Falls barn dance series on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the gym of the River Falls Academy (the former Meyer Middle School) at 439 West Maple Street in River Falls from 7 to 10 p.m.
The Roustabouts, new to the River Falls barn dances, include musicians from the well-known Minnesota string band the Barn Cats and Friends. They promise a lively evening of old-time tunes to accompany traditional dances from square dances to line dancers and reels.
Everyone is welcome. No prior dancing experience is necessary. A professional caller teaches dance steps to newcomers and more seasoned dancers alike. Partners are optional and both singles and couples welcome. Children are encouraged to participate in the opening family dance segment from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The second half of the evening features somewhat more advanced dances.
Other dates in the 2013-14 season are: Rush River Ramblers on Saturday, Nov. 16; Gritpickers on Saturday, Jan. 18; Rush River Ramblers on Saturday, Feb. 15; Barn Cats on Saturday, March 15; and Poor Benny on Saturday, April 19.
The barn dance series is volunteer-operated and jointly sponsored by River Falls Community Arts Base and River Falls Parks and Recreation. Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for 12 and under. Refreshments will be available. More information is available at http://www.riverfallscab.org.
