Rosella Hendrickson, 92

Rosella Catherine Hendrickson, age 92, of River Falls, Wis., died Tuesday, March 19, at the River Falls Area Hospital.

Rosella was born on Aug. 8, 1920, in River Falls, the daughter of Peter and Amelia (Fisher) Cernohous.

She graduated from River Falls High School in 1937. She then attended River Falls Normal School, now University of Wisconsin - River Falls, and earned a rural school teaching certificate.

Rosella taught grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse while her fiancé, Robert Hendrickson, was serving on the USS Hambleton, a naval destroyer, during WWII.

They married in 1943 at the Cathedral of St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn., and raised their family on a dairy farm outside Prescott, Wis. Rosella's extensive gardens yielded an abundance of fresh vegetables, strawberries, and flowers. Her creative talents shone in her many sewing projects: her children's clothes, home decorating, sewing repairs, and alterations for any who asked. She cooked and baked nearly everything from scratch and was especially known for her poppy seed rolls and homemade ice cream.

Rosella was dedicated to her faith and participated in many church activities, first at St. Joseph's Church in Prescott, then at St. Bridget's in River Falls, where she especially enjoyed working with the quilting group.

Rosella was devoted to community involvement and was active in Farm Bureau, the American Legion Auxiliary, and on the Senior Citizen Board. She was very excited about plans for a new senior center for which her granddaughter Rachel would be an architect. She loved playing cards at the Senior Center and with her many other friends.

Rosella was a loving, generous-hearted, creative woman who lived life simply but very fully. We miss her dearly.

Rosella is survived by her six children: Bobbi Hendrickson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Ron (Kay) Hendrickson, San Diego, Calif.; Randy (Sue) Hendrickson, Prescott; Roger (Tracy) Hendrickson, Prescott; Roman (Barb) Hendrickson, Prescott; Rebecca Hendrickson, River Falls; 12 grandchildren, Matt (Julie) Hendrickson, Katie Hendrickson, Bre (Dylan) O'Neill, Rachel (Jonathan) Bartling, Ryan (Kelly) Hendrickson, Renita Hendrickson, Chris (Serina) Hendrickson, Renee Hendrickson, Carri Hendrickson, Nate (Anna) Hendrickson, Joe Krear, and Jenessa (David) Cox; 12 great grandchildren. Rosella is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
