RF Public Library activities listed
The River Falls Public Library is seeking works by area artists for its annual and upcoming Community Art Show. Artists of all skill levels are asked to submit up to three pieces by Tuesday, Dec. 1, which will be displayed throughout the building. The show will open Sunday, Dec. 6, and continue through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. Call Katie Chaffee at 425-0905 with questions.
The Baby Storytime group still has openings for 10:30-10:40 a.m. Wednesday sessions on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. Call Susan Pesheck at 425-0905 to register.
After school times for older children to listen to stories are also available from 4-4:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Dec. 1, 8, and 15.
The UW-River Falls Falcon Fellows will co-sponsor a Fall Festival Program aimed for children preschool through third grade, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. Activities include games, fall and Thanksgiving crafts and snacks.
On Wednesday, Nov. 25, a Thanksgiving Themed Storytime for preschool and lower elementary children will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Registration is not needed for any of the above events.
Fundraiser held at local bank
The Central Africa Women's Scholarship Benefit Fund has been created to continue raise funds for Beene Shanzala, a friend of the Nierengarten family of River Falls, to assist her with her college education in Zambia. To contribute to those expenses, a fundraiser in the First National Bank of River Falls' lobby will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, which includes a craft and bake sale, with all proceeds going to Shanzala. Immunization clinic scheduled
Pierce County Public Health's monthly River Falls immunization clinic will be held from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 174 S. Riverwalk., in the lower level of the Edina Realty building. A consent form must be signed by the parent or guardian. If a child is sent with someone other than a parent (i.e., grandparent, babysitter, friend) signed written permission for the specific immunization(s) to be given that day must be provided. Donations are accepted at all clinic sites. Call a physician or the Public Health Department at 273-6755 with questions.
Dental clinic available
The Pierce County Public Health Department offers preventative dental clinic twice a month for residents ages 2-18. The check up may include a dental exam, cleaning, fluoride treatments, x-rays and sealants at the clinic located in Ellsworth. Medical Assistance will cover costs for eligible clients and persons enrolled in Badger Care and Healthy Start. A sliding fee scale is also available. West CAP Literacy Program will recruit volunteer tutors for Pierce and St. Croix counties at the Our Neighbor's Place Day Center Open House from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. Literacy tutors are volunteers that are trained to teach literacy skills to adults through individual, student-centered, tutoring methods. They work with basic education students or English language learners. The West CAP Literacy Program is housed in the Our Neighbor's Place Day Center, 136 N. Riverwalk in River Falls.
