Sign up to read to dog at library; quilts sought for show

The River Falls Public Library will give children in grades 1-5 the opportunity to read to Amanda Brown's certified therapy dog, a gold retriever named Ashton, from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling Susan Pesheck at 425-0905. Pesheck can also offer more information about the event.


Quilts needed for show

Library Quilt Show organizers are seeking bed or wall quilts or wearable art from persons who would like to display them at the library's upcoming Quilt Show. Submissions are due at the library Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 8 and 9, and should be handmade as opposed to factory-made. The exhibit will also feature a display of Jere Sears' antique Valentines and other memorabilia; opens Sunday, Feb. 14 and runs through Sunday, March 14. Democrats plan kickoff party

The Pierce County Democratic Party plans its 2010 Election Year Kickoff Party from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at the River Falls Public Library. Refreshments will be served. The public is invited to hear candidates speak about what's motivating them to run for office and how they will represent their constituents if elected. Old tractors, trucks wanted for display

Organizers are looking for machinery, tractors, farm trucks and small engines manufactured prior to 1970 to display at 2010 Farm Technology Days.

Wisconsin's largest outdoor farm show will be held July 20-22 at the Roger and Bev Peterson in Pierce County. Heritage Tractor Committee members want to get as many owners as possible signed up from Pierce County and southwest St. Croix County by Feb. 15. After that date the display will be opened up to machinery owners from other areas. The committee has over three acres for the machinery and would like about 300 pieces. Republicans host annual dinner

The Republican Party of St. Croix County will host its annual Lincoln Day dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Kilkarney Hills Golf Club, 163 Radio Road. The dinner is open to the public. Guests will include: State Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen, Milwaukee County executive and gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker, and former congressman and gubernatorial candidate Mark Neumann.
