River Falls celebrates MLK holiday
The Seventh annual River Falls Community Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Breakfast drew a sizeable crowd Monday, Jan. 20, acording to event general coordinator Kathy Scott.
The event ran from 7-9 a.m. Breakfast, compliments of the River Falls Lions club, was served from 7-8 a.m. The UW-River Falls Community Gospel Choir performed from 7:20-7:50 a.m.
The program began with a welcome by Scott. During the program River Falls High School junior Gavin Erickson was named the 2014 RFMLK Youth Community Service Award recipient.
All proceeds from ticket sales, cash donations and a free will offering collected during the breakfast will go to the Free Clinic of Pierce and St. Croix counties.
Five River Falls students, ranging from fourth through 12th grade, were selected to read a poem or essay they had written for the audience.
