River Falls actor in cast of "Annie Get Your Gun"
Willow River Players announces the cast for Irving Berlin’s wildly popular tale of love in the Wild West, "Annie Get Your Gun," a musical that will keep you tapping your toes and singing the songs long after you leave the theater.
Based on the real story of American folk heroes, the show incorporates some very well-known songs such as “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, “You Can’t Get A Man With A Gun” and “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better”. When Buffolo Bill's Wild West Show comes into town, Annie Oakley (played by Laura Rassier from Star Prairie) quickly falls in love with the show's sharpshooter, Frank Butler (Walter DeKock of New Richmond) . Annie, an amazing sharpshooter herself, joins the show so she can win Frank. Unfortunately for Annie, Frank wants a more feminine woman and not a tomboy, gun-toting dame. Further, the fact that she can shoot better than Frank makes her his enemy. In the end, Annie lets Frank win in the sharpshooting contest. As a result, he falls in love with Annie and the two sharpshooters get married.
Buffalo Bill is played by Zach Dodge of New Richmond and the business manager for Buffalo Bill’s show, Charlie, is played by Robert Bauer from Roberts. Cast in the role of Sitting Bull is Logan Arneson from River Falls, and Eric Dyrud-Estrada of New Richmond is Chief Wild Horse. New Richmond residents Jenna Cagle is Dolly, and George Gfall is Pawnee Bill.
Other cast members from Roberts, New Richmond, Hudson and River Falls include Angela Brown, Ashley Sager, Audrey DeKock, Ben Rayne, Brianna Rolling, Camille Budrow, Dayton Dodge, Elijah Verdoorn, Emily Beirbrauer, Gus Franchere, Jordan Berry, Josie Armagost, Kyle Elkin, McKenzie Budrow, Michaela Jorstad, Nina DeKock, and Stalyon Blackmon.
Director Maddie Weber and Musical Director Katelyn Peterson are proud to have such a wonderful cast. “We are doing the shows in August to allow some of the local college students the opportunity to be in this show before leaving for school. It’s a great experience for the young cast members to work with adults and the college students to learn more of theater from those with more experience.” Jodi Mealy has done the choreography, and many volunteers work behind the scenes working on set building, costumes, ushering, publicity and much more. New Richmond Community Ed is a partner with WRP in this show.
Chad Leonard, current WRP President, says “without hundreds of man hours by our board members and volunteers, community theater wouldn’t exist. So many people think shows just happen, but it takes a lot of people to make it work.” Community members interested in volunteering should contact Willow River Players at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 715-246-1028. “We still need help these next few weeks in many areas, we welcome folks to contact us and we can find ways for them to help bring this production to life” according to Leonard.
Annie Get Your Gun will be performed at the New Richmond High School Auditorium August 16, 17,18, 23, 24 and 25. Visit www.willowriverplayers.org for ticket information.
