Less than an hour earlier, a 24-year-old local man was stopped at Main and Maple streets for drunk driving, his third offense. The man allegedly made a wild right turn downtown and hit a curb.

And last week Wednesday, just before 2 a.m., police were called to an accident scene in the 1500 block of Greenwood Valley Drive in the city's new subdivision on the south side. A car had flipped and was up against a retaining wall -- minus a driver. The suspect and his female passenger were traced to a nearby friend's house in the 1800 block of Bennett Street. Unhurt except for a bleeding big toe, the 28-year-old Forest Lake, Minn., driving suspect was tested for alcohol and arrested for his second drunk driving offense. A search of his car allegedly turned up two bags of pot.

In the past week, River Falls police also:

--Arrested a 20-year-old Hudson woman for obstruction, child neglect, trespassing and felony bail jumping in the 400 block of South Wasson Lane Friday morning. The Hudson woman, who was busted just weeks earlier for meth possession, was supposed to be watching another woman's child in a rental unit. The four-year-old girl, however, was spotted wandering out in the parking lot, crying and calling for her mother. When questioned by police, the Hudson woman kept using a fake name because there was a no-trespass notice forbidding her to be in that apartment. She also said she'd been cleaning and thought the kid was watching a movie. Once her identity was established, the Hudson woman was given fines. The case also goes to the district attorney for possible charges.

--Arrested a 45-year-old man living at the River Falls Motel, 1300 South Main St., Sunday morning for disorderly conduct and four arrest warrants from across Wisconsin. The man allegedly was beating up his live-in girlfriend for not letting out their little dog. She claimed he got her out of bed and then went after her as she used the bathroom. Someone who heard the commotion called police. When officers arrived, they met the man outside the motel. He was walking the dog. They took him, but not the dog, to jail in Ellsworth.
