RF Food Pantry: Demand up, supply down
The numbers tell the story: In October, the River Falls Food Pantry gave out 14,940 pounds of food products to 757 persons. The year before in October, it gave out 12,622 pounds to 652 persons.
Last Wednesday during a 1-5 p.m. shift, longtime Food Pantry volunteer Rick Pechacek said: "We served 31 families and gave out just under 2,000 pounds of food...You could not believe the number of clients waiting to get in...I never have seen this before."
Added Food Pantry Coordinator Janna Carl: "It's tough and people are tightening their purse strings."
For those still willing and able to give to the Food Pantry, Carl has this advice: "If you and your family like something, we'll have clients who will like it."
The Food Pantry is located on the second floor of the Walnut Street side of Ezekiel Lutheran Church.
Hours are: Monday, 10 a.m. to noon; Wednesday, 1-5 p.m.; Thursday, 6:30-8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon.
To reach the Food Pantry, call Ezekiel at 425-8294.
The Journal will have much more on this story in its print edition next week that comes out before Thanksgiving Day.
