Rail group encourages depot visit
The St. Croix Valley Rail Group advocates for increasing passenger rail and works to support area train initiatives, particularly trying to make sure future plans include a stop in Hudson.
The group encourages everyone to commemorate National Train Day Saturday, May 11, by visiting the newly renovated St. Paul Union Depot, where passenger-train service begins later this year. The SCVRG says its membership has doubled in the past three months to 50 people.
It also coordinated recently with the state DOT to change its web site language since travel by car is no longer growing as indicated on the site. The group includes members from New Richmond, Hudson, River Falls and Ellsworth. They meet quarterly on the third Tuesday of every third month at 4 p.m. in The Awareness Project office, 208 S. Main St. To contact the group, send U.S. Mail to the Main Street address or an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
