Prairie Island operating at partial capacity with one unit down
RED WING - A nuclear power plant at the Wisconsin-Minnesota border is running at only partial capacity. The second of two units is down at the Prairie Island plant.
Its owner, Xcel Energy, said an obstruction is being removed in a pump drain. The utility says there's no danger to the plant's workers, or to people in the area. The work is expected to finished in a few days, and Unit-One is still operating at full power.
During outages at Prairie Island, Xcel purchases electricity from other utilities and-or boosts production at its other plants.
