"Poor Benny" to play barn dance in RF
The popular locally-based string band, Poor Benny, returns to the River Falls' barn dance series from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, in the gym of the River Falls Academy (former Meyer Middle School) on West Maple Street.
The group features guitar-player David Furniss, of the UW-River Falls English faculty and other players from the Wisconsin-Minnesota border region. Expect a fun evening of line and circle dances, reels, waltzes, and square dances.
No experience is necessary to participate. An expert caller instructs new and more seasoned dancers alike. All ages are welcome, singles and couples.
Family dances suitable for children predominate during the first half, with more advanced dances in the second half.
Remaining dates in the 2010-11 season are as follows: Grit Pickers, Jan. 22; Rush River Ramblers, Feb. 19; Mill City Serenaders, March 19; Rush River Ramblers, April 16. All are Saturday evenings.
The barn dances are a joint project of River Falls Community Arts Base and River Falls Parks and Recreation. Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for
12 and under. Inexpensive refreshments are available.
