Pool bathhouse to be remodeled
Visitors to Glen Park Pool this summer might not notice a difference to the bathhouse from the outside. But if they step inside, they will find everything changed.
Tuesday night the City Council awarded a bid for interior bathhouse renovation to Ross & Associates of River Falls and approved a budget adjustment for the project’s cost.
Because the bathhouse is a historic structure, the renovations will all be within the existing footprint of the building.
“It’s basically like gutting a house and then building all the rooms inside,” City Administrator Scot Simpson said. “So the four walls are still going to be the same, the roof is fine, but everything else is new and different.”
The men’s and women’s changing rooms will be rebuilt and two family changing rooms will be added. Simpson said the men’s and women’s changing rooms will be slightly smaller, but much more efficient.
Simpson said the inside of the bathhouse has already been demolished. Now, the new inside walls need to be built, and the floor, plumbing and electricity all need to be redone.
It will cost around $98,054 to complete the remodel. The 2014 budget originally included $25,000 for the renovations.
